Get your students practicing and mastering their French sounds by playing the French phonics game in this post.

As they say: kids learn best when they’re having fun! 😉

French phonics game: a phonics focused version of the 4-in-a-row game! There are different boards to contrast different groups of sounds, like on/ou/oi, e/é/è, and more!

French Phonics Game

You and your students are probably familiar with the game 4-in-a-row. You know, the one where players need to get four pieces, well, in a row (vertically, horizontally, or diagonally).

I’d like to present you a phonics-focused version of this game, with a spinner/dice variation.

The set includes many sounds AND I’ll be adding new boards to the file as long as I have new ideas of contrasting sounds and can find corresponding images.

First, pair up your kiddos and give them one of the boards.

You can decide between having them use the spinner version or the dice version.

There are versions with spinners and there are versions to be used with dice!

By spinning the spinners or rolling the dice, they’ll get a sound.

First, students need to pronounce the sound.

Next, they’ll find an image on the board that includes the sound they got.

Then, they’ll either cover it with a cube, chip, or any other manipulative. If they’re playing with a laminated board, you can have them use dry-erase markers to circle or cross the image.

The first student to get four images in a row is the winner.

Print the B&W version (included) on colorful card stock paper!

Currently, there are five boards to contrast the following sounds:

  • A x AI x AU
  • OI x ON x OU
  • E x É x È
  • G dur x G doux
  • C dur x C doux

This is a GROWING resource, which means that I’ll be adding more boards to the file soon.

After purchasing, you’ll get the future boards FREE!
